NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY: TRANSLATOR/CONSULAR STAFF

The Philippine Embassy in Tehran invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Translator/Consular Staff.

Overview: 

The Translator/Consular Staff shall primarily translate Iranian into English and vice versa, and provide frontline services at the Embassy’s Consular section.  He/she shall also assist the Embassy in engaging with external contacts from Iranian national and local government agencies, business sector, cultural institutions, civil society, and service providers for the Embassy’s operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the officers and personnel of the Embassy in its day-to-day operations;
  • Assist the Embassy in its functions, including in the negotiation and translation of documents as required by the Embassy;
  • Assist in writing reports and communications;
  • Assist in the consular services / able to process consular requirements and queries received from clients and from emails and telephone calls;
  • Assist in rendering support for management of welfare-related matters and requests for assistance involving Filipinos in distress;
  • Coordinate with the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other agencies and  liaise with other local authorities as and when necessary;
  • Maintain confidentiality of official documents and all issues and concerns of the Embassy at all times;
  • Provide translation into English language during face-to-face meetings with clients and guests and during live events conducted by the Embassy;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of Embassy and other key personnel of the Embassy.

Qualifications:

  • Resident of Tehran and allowed to legally work therein;
  • Holder of university or bachelor’s degree in any field;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Farsi and English. Candidates with Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) preferred. Knowledge of Filipino language is a plus; 
  • Ability to translate letters/emails and on-the-spot conversations;
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience as translator and/or interpreter. Experiences on consular services and/or other international organizations operations are also desired;
  • Good working knowledge of computer applications (e.g., MS Word and MS Excel);
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from superiors;
  • Courtesy, honesty, positive work ethic, and team spirit; and
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to work.

General considerations:

The selected candidate will be given a six months contract under a Contract of Service arrangement and renewable thereafter, subject to performance evaluation and availability of funds.
